Katherine began her career as an artist in 1972 when she started a needlepoint design business, based originally in Minnesota. She specialized in custom work, and created a signature line of over 300 designs, which continues to be distributed nationally. She moved to Florida after retiring in 2000 and turned to painting full time, with acrylics as her medium.
The paintings shown here are based on memories Katherine has of growing up in the Midwest – the farm fields of Minnesota and the lakes of northern Wisconsin. Her process involves working on several canvases at a time, moving quickly from one painting to the next, feeling rather than over thinking each composition. Her aim in this series is to evoke a feeling of stillness and calm through color and simplicity to create a place of solitude for the viewer to go.
